Saki Treks - Captain Joe Warning

by Michael Boekhoven
(Nairobi, Kenya)

I am writing to warn about the subject person and his company organizing treks and operating in Kenya and in Tanzania.

Recently, the owner of the company borrowed USD 810.00 from me for services that had already been paid for against his promise to repay the loan. He failed to do so.

I have brought the matter to the Nairobi police and have filed a report with them but have been told this will not be successful - I recently learned that he has do the same thing successfully in the past.

I am also aware of two other persons he defrauded in the same way. I am posting this with the hope that others are warned.

On February 8, 2010, I contracted with Joseph Muthee Kirienye (also known as Capt. Joe) of the following company:

Saki Treks Expedition (A)
P O Box 674 Nanyuki- Kenya
Tel +254728499631
Email: sakitreks@hotmail.com

The contract was for guiding services to Mount Kilimanjaro and included all park entry permits, all camp and hut fees, guides and porters, transport from and returning to Nairobi, all food costs and all equipment hires.

However upon arrival in Arusha, Tanzania it transpired that the park fees had not been paid and consequently the start of the trek was postponed.

Further, problems arose with the local porters and guide. Joseph Kirienve advised me that he could not honour his contracted agreement without a loan sufficient to cover the costs of the park fees, as well as other expenses covered in the contract. As the choice was between cancellation or the additional payment, I agreed against his commitment to repay the loan upon return to Nairobi.

However, he has failed to do so and failed to respond to numerous requests I made of him to contact me.

I think all these guys are conmen. This "Captain" Joe seem to be fishy. How on earth can he perform Kilimanjaro's expeditions while in Nanyuki? Does he have any permits for this kind of work. They just take advantage visitors for they dont what to do next. I believe if your matter can be handled by a senior and corrupt free officer, even if you dont get your money from these conmen, atleast they can end-up in jail not to defraud other visitors. I'm a kenyan In Canada and I think I can help.

Its so sad to also confirm that this man did the same thing to me in August 2011. He had a nerve to greet me on facebook and asking me how am I doing and if I believe in God I should forget about what happened there. I wish something could be done to put him into books and I will be more than willing to be part in making sure that what he did to us will not happen to another person again. What he did to me do not even wish to my worse enemy.
