Addo and Sabi Sands Safari

When visiting South Africa on holiday, we rented a car and visited Addo Elephant NP, Sabi Sands private game reserve as well as Swaziland, St Lucia, Drakensberg, Coffee Bay, Tsitsikamma, Swellendam, Oudtshoorn, Hermanus and Cape Town. The landscapes were amazing and beautiful with never ending beaches, especially the De Hoop reserve.

We stayed at two safari lodges which we found on the internet.

Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve - Nkorho Bush Lodge was nice, clean and modern. Staff and game drives were wonderful. I would surely stay at this lodge if I had the chance to come back to South Africa.

Addo Elephant National Park - Kuzuko Lodge had the best food and service ever, beautiful surroundings and nice drives. The staff made everyone feel special and the pool, lovely.

One must stay in private game lodges because they give you the best treatment ever.

A typical day would involve an early wake up call with tea/coffee, then a morning drive, breakfast bush walk followed by some free time. Lunch, more free time, night drive, dinner and bar.

Breakfasts were typical English; lunch several different types of dishes such as cold pasta, chicken wings, toast etc; and dinner several selections of meat, chicken and bush meat. I loved all the food.

The game drives were conducted in open jeeps in groups of around 8 or 6. The guides were perfect, gave us all details and info, saw the big five. Most amazing experience. We really enjoyed our stays.

We saw lots of kudus, springbok, antelope, waterbuck etc., zebras (mountain zebras as well at Kuzuko), giraffes, elephants, lions, rhino, hippos, warthogs, baboons and vervet monkeys, various birds including eagles and nkorhos (yellow-billed hornbills - Ed), buffalos, wildebeest, leopard at night and it was my most amazing experience ever.

The most useful items in my luggage were my camera/video recorder and water.

I would love to visit South Africa once more : )
